Orthotics Services

At Orthotic Consultants, our commitment is to provide high-quality orthotic care that helps improve comfort, mobility and quality of life. We offer a comprehensive range of orthotic services for adults and children, supporting patients with foot, ankle, knee, hip, spinal and neurological conditions.

Our experienced orthotist will assess your individual needs and recommend the most suitable orthotic solution for you. Whether you require pain relief, improved walking, support following injury, or specialist footwear, we take a personalised approach to every patient.

Your orthotic journey begins with a detailed assessment. During this appointment, the orthotist will discuss your symptoms, medical history and mobility needs before advising which orthotic treatment may be most appropriate.

Where relevant, please bring any medical information, referral letters or details relating to your orthotic needs. For lower limb assessments, it may also be helpful to wear shorts so a full biomechanical assessment can be carried out.

Insoles can help relieve foot, ankle, knee, hip and back pain. They may be recommended for patients with flat feet, high arches, pronated feet, painful joints, arthritis or specific foot disorders.

Insoles can be designed to support, accommodate or correct the diagnosed condition. We also offer a 3D printed express service for custom-made insoles, allowing suitable patients to have their insoles produced within two hours following assessment.

Specialist footwear may be recommended for patients with high-risk feet, including people with diabetes, or for those who require footwear due to unusual foot shape, size or swelling.

Footwear can be supplied in wide fittings, deep fittings, made-to-measure designs, and options that accommodate orthotic insoles. We can also advise on footwear for swollen feet and more complex orthotic requirements.

Ankle braces can support patients who experience repeated ankle sprains, instability or arthritic pain. Depending on the severity of the condition, braces may be supplied as off-the-shelf options or custom-made devices.

These braces can help improve confidence, reduce unwanted movement and provide targeted support during everyday activity or sport.

Knee braces can help support the knee following injury, provide stability and reduce pain associated with osteoarthritis, ligament injuries or cartilage problems.

Different braces are available depending on the level of support or offloading required. We can advise on braces for everyday use, rehabilitation, sporting activity and more complex knee conditions.

Spinal braces may be fitted following spinal fractures, neck injuries, scoliosis, kyphosis or other spinal conditions. Rigid spinal braces are often used after injury, while corsets and back supports may be suitable for lower back pain or abdominal hernia support.

We also offer a change and clean service for patients with spinal fractures who require ongoing brace care.

Ankle Foot Orthoses, also known as AFOs, can support patients with drop foot, stroke-related weakness, cerebral palsy or foot and ankle deformity.

AFOs are available in a range of designs, including lightweight carbon fibre, cosmetic and plastic versions. They may be supplied as stock devices or custom-made orthoses, depending on your needs.

Knee Ankle Foot Orthoses, also known as KAFOs or full-length callipers, are designed for patients with significant weakness in the lower limb. They can assist standing and walking where this would otherwise be difficult or impossible.

KAFOs can be made with locked or free-moving joints and may be manufactured from rigid plastic or lightweight carbon fibre.

Carbon fibre splints are lightweight, strong and less bulky than many traditional orthotic designs. They can be used for AFOs, KAFOs, knee braces and other specialist splints.

These devices can help reduce energy use when walking, improve comfort and support longer walking distances for suitable patients.

Shoe raises can help patients with uneven leg lengths following hip replacement, knee replacement, lower limb fracture, scoliosis or other conditions.

The raise can be added inside or outside the shoe, depending on the height required. In some cases, the correction can be split between the inside of the shoe and the outer sole to achieve a more cosmetic finish.

We provide orthotic support for children with foot and ankle problems, including flat feet, hypermobility and toe walking.

Children’s orthopaedic footwear and insoles can be designed to provide support, improve comfort and help with walking. Options may include school shoes, sports footwear, casual footwear, laces or Velcro fastenings.

A Pavlik harness may be fitted for babies born with an underdeveloped hip joint. The harness helps position the hips correctly while the joint continues to develop.

We also offer a change and clean service for babies who are wearing a Pavlik harness.

Orthopaedic walker boots can be supplied following fractures, injury or surgery to the foot and ankle. They are often used after removal of plaster to support gradual weight bearing and natural healing.

Custom insoles can also be supplied for walker boots, particularly for patients with mechanical foot problems or high-risk diabetic feet.
